About the Position
The Scientific Education Specialist will be responsible for the design and development of curricula and graduate course offerings to be used across a number of platforms to optimally support our students from all backgrounds. Utilising industry knowledge of University policies and procedures relevant to education and training, and through application a deep understanding of pedagogical standards, the Scientific Education Specialist will develop relationships with broad internal, and some external, stakeholders for the development of new course content and degrees to the current offerings. The role will require identification and pedagogical consideration of current course offerings for curation into programs and offerings for adult education at WEHI.
The Scientific Education Lecturer will work closely with the Scientific Education Specialist to deliver the total Education offering at WEHI, including teaching into our existing programs and degrees (e.g., Honours, Medical Biology PhD program) and be an integral member of the Scientific Education team.
Key responsibilities include :
- Preparing and delivering graduate medical biology lectures and tutorials, facilitating the delivery of internal workshops on broad scientific technologies and engage in seminar presentations
- Training of tutors, markers, and other sessional staff associated with all graduate courses and workshops
- Evaluate current educational content for recommendation to WEHI staff and students and integration into curated education packages
- Create and implement assessment strategies in graduate courses that measure student learning and provide feedback to improve learning outcomes
- Collaborate with other academics to create and improve curricula and teaching methods through the design and integration of new technologies and innovative teaching strategies
- Contribute to WEHI's strategic goals through keeping abreast of current and innovative research in the field of scientific education, networking with other organisations and sharing WEHI education best practice outside of the institution
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills :
A Ph.D. in a scientific discipline (mandatory) and education qualification would be advantageousDemonstrated strong record of teaching experience in a tertiary environmentKnowledge of pedagogical approaches and the ways in which these can influence how knowledge and skills are imparted in the adult education contextPassion for scientific education including the latest technology breakthroughsAbility to work positively and cooperatively with students, internal and external teams and agenciesExperience in mentoring graduate studentsProven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and research activitiesDemonstrated statistical analysis and manuscript preparation skills; including a solid track record of refereed research publicationsPersonal Qualities :
Self-motivated individual with proven ability to work independently, and on multiple initiatives concurrentlyExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; proven aptitude for communicating effectively with a variety of audiencesAble to prioritise work and meeting deadlinesTerms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Employee (RE) Level A-B ($82,334 - $125,339) . Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
