Role

A key Youth Justice leadership position, the Executive Director, Youth Justice Operations is responsible for leading key operational support teams, as well as liaison with key service partners, to ensure the health, wellbeing, rehabilitation, education and positive development of children and young people in youth justice custody is well co-ordinated and responsive. The role is critical to oversighting the provision of quality and co-ordinated client services in youth justice custody, and the safety and security of Victoria's youth justice precincts.

Some of your duties will include :

  • Direct, lead and manage best practice custodial support services for children and young people, including the delivery of quality recreational programs, meaningful temporary leave and prerelease programs to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Lead and motivate staff to deliver effective rehabilitation services and interventions and security arrangements in line with the Youth Justice Strategic Plan and Custodial Operating philosophy.
  • Develop and champion solutions to challenges in the custodial environment based on advanced technical knowledge and expertise. This includes management and placement of complex cohorts of children and young people within the custodial system, supporting targeted interventions for children and young people displaying challenging behaviours.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have :

  • Has demonstrated leadership presence in an operational environment. Has been successful in motivating all levels of a staffing group to deliver high quality services and has experience leading multiple diverse teams.
  • Has specialist experience, coupled with significant achievement in operating within a custodial environment. This includes experience leading staff to best support children and young people to promote positive behaviour change and engagement.
  • Significant experience and authoritative knowledge of case management arrangements for
  • young people with very complex needs and understanding of issues faced by children and

    young people from CALD and Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
