Your Opportunity

  • As the Health, Safety and Wellness Consultant, you will

Providing advice and expertise on workplace health, safety and wellbeing issues and best practice for TAFE Queensland; and

Providing support to health, safety and wellbeing services across the organisation.

This position reports to the Manager, Safety and Training.

There are 2 Temporary, Full-Time opportunity, to 31 December 2025 unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Mount Gravatt however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the success of cultural change through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values.

Collate and prepare periodic Executive and Board reports relating to WH&S key performance data and metrics.

Provide high level advice to managers, educators and TAFE services staff regarding a wide range of health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) issues for resolution, including initiatives for continuous improvement of safety practice and culture.

Develop productive partnerships with managers, educators and TAFE services staff to identify and development HSW solutions using risk-based management approaches applied to business activities.

Manage and maintain state-wide operational committee meetings as required and communicate recommendations regarding best practice and future movement of Work Health, Safety and Wellbeing matters, including providing options to bring the organisation in alignment with legislation and consistent practice.

Actively support TQ state-wide health, safety and wellbeing initiatives and projects.

Assist regions in managing health, safety and wellbeing related activities through, the review and monitoring of incidents, management of incident investigations, conducting regular audits and advising on workplace inspections and monitoring the implementation of controls.

Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of HSW procedures, instruction and systems for the organisation.

Proactively liaise and engage with key stakeholders to build staff awareness and capability to enhance a culture of consistent and high standards of HSW practice.

Contribute to the credibility and reputation of the Human Resource team by keeping staff informed of changes to HSW legislation, developing and maintaining networks and fostering collaborative partnerships.

Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the values of Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities :

High level knowledge of legislation, policy and procedure relevant to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) and the demonstrated ability to provide accurate and timely HSW related advice and services.

Proven experience in building and sustaining productive stakeholder relationships and working collaboratively to achieve HSW outcomes for the organisation.

Demonstrated effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to provide discreet and unbiased advice.

Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to successfully manage emergent operational issues and propose workable solutions to facilitate successful outcomes for both clients and the organisation.

Demonstrated commitment to the values of the organisation through modelling of behaviours and the provision of outstanding client service.

Highly Desirable Requirements

Occupational Health and Safety qualification

Rehabilitation and Return to Work accreditation

Previous experience in a health and safety role would be highly regarded.
