About the Opportunity

Aboriginal Got It! is a pioneering early intervention mental health program designed to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal children aged 3 to 9 years in preschool and primary school settings. Grounded in cultural integrity, the program blends Aboriginal traditional healing practices and ways of being with evidence-based clinical approaches to deliver truly holistic care.

This unique opportunity involves delivering a 10‑week therapeutic group programme for Aboriginal children and their extended families, alongside providing culturally responsive case management. The programme also works closely with schools to build their capacity to identify and support children’s emotional needs, fostering safer and more inclusive learning environments.

Based within the Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (ICAMHS), you’ll be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals and Aboriginal community knowledge holders. Together, we create a culturally safe space where healing, connection, and growth are at the heart of everything we do.

Join an award‑winning team recognised with the NSW Health Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Healthcare.

What You’ll be Doing

The Principal Aboriginal Health Worker is responsible for supporting the delivery of the Aboriginal GOT IT programme to children, their parents / carers and schools across South Western Sydney Local Health District. The Principal Aboriginal Health Worker will play a key role in ensuring the programme maintains its cultural integrity, with responsibility for continuing to develop, adapt and evaluate the cultural framework that underpins the programme. The position will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and will have responsibility for supporting participating families that are engaged in the programme around their cultural and psychosocial needs.
