Latrobe City Council has an opportunity for a Perinatal Mental Health Clinician to join our Family Services Department.

About the role

Our Perinatal Mental Health Clinician will work with parents, carers and other early childhood & family support services to improve the health and wellbeing of children. They will provide focused and intensive support for vulnerable families with young children who are identified as being at risk of poor outcomes.

Early intervention and support is critical in achieving positive outcomes for families, and your role will be to support families by providing an intensive service that builds capacity in families to attain the goals of the agreed Child and Family Action Plan (CFAP).

About You

For this role we are seeking someone who is highly skilled in developing rapport and building relationships with a strong element on trust and accountability, with a diverse range of clients and services across the municipality. You will have the ability to work constructively within a multidisciplinary team, developing collaborative relationships to provide support for families.

You will have :

  • Tertiary qualification in Mental Health with current AHPRA or AASW registration.
  • Extensive knowledge of the impact of perinatal emotional health with high-risk families – in particular, family dynamics in trauma, adult mental health and family violence.
  • Extensive experience working in home-based, community and outreach settings to effectively apply therapeutic interventions in the perinatal emotional health period.
  • Demonstrated practice based on respect for the values and rights of clients, self and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability in client engagement, including communication, conflict resolution, counselling, and negotiation skills with key community organisations and clients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, manage own workload, and take responsibility for work output within Enhanced MCH team.
  • Successful applicants are required to apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
