Job description

About the role :

The Project Officer provides project, policy and administrative support to the Voluntary Assisted Dying Access and Coordination team to assist with the delivery of priority initiatives.

The Project Officer supports the operational delivery of Victoria's Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) by contributing to coordinating case activities, maintaining accurate records, administration and planning.

The role contributes to the progression of VAD cases in line with legislative, policy and operational requirements, supports systems for data collection and reporting. Success in this role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment. The Project Support Officer is a key contributor to effective communication, stakeholder coordination and smooth project delivery across the team.

About us :

At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.

We see it as our job to support Victorians to stay healthy and safe. And to deliver a world-class healthcare system that ensures every single Victorian can access safe, quality care that leads to better health outcomes for all.

About you :

The Department of Health is seeking a highly motivated Project Officer to support the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Access and Coordination program. This role is responsible for contributing to the effective delivery of projects that improve access, coordination, and service outcomes across the VAD pathway.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather and analyse relevant information, engage with stakeholders, and develop practical, evidence-based solutions. You will be confident in assessing issues from multiple perspectives and drawing sound conclusions to inform decision-making.

A strong commitment to service excellence is essential. You will actively identify opportunities for continuous improvement, implement changes to enhance service quality and timeliness, and take ownership of resolving issues in a responsive and professional manner. Monitoring stakeholder satisfaction and driving positive outcomes will be a key focus.

The role requires well-developed communication, influence, and negotiation skills. You will adapt your approach to suit different audiences, anticipate and manage objections, and effectively promote initiatives by aligning them with stakeholder priorities. Your ability to negotiate and implement agreed actions will support successful project outcomes.

You will also bring demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, building productive relationships, addressing concerns constructively, and adding value through collaboration. Strong planning and organisational skills are critical, including the ability to prioritise tasks, allocate resources effectively, and develop systems to track progress and overcome barriers.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a meaningful health program while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Desirable

  • A qualification in business, project management and or working in government would be advantageous but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in managing and supporting departmental executive functions and processes would be advantageous.

On a personal level the candidate will be resilient and composed under pressure, working collaboratively with others while demonstrating sound judgement and decisiveness. They will bring strong analytical and conceptual thinking, approach challenges with creativity, and consistently act with integrity in line with public sector values.

What we offer :

  • The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
  • A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.
