ESA’s Assessment team is responsible for the development and delivery of national online initiatives across all of Australia. The key event each year being NAPLAN. The Assessment team operates as the technology provider and technical support for the states and territories during all NAPLAN testing, and associated events.

The role

We are looking for a Manager Operations - Assessment to be responsible for the operational management and delivery of the National Assessment Program (NAP) events. These events include NAPLAN, NAP Sample Assessment, and ACARA Research events.

Reporting to the Program Director, you will have a high degree of autonomy that will require you to have a strong understanding of the platform and be a key point of contact for external stakeholders and the broader project team to meet key deliverables.

Your key focus to :

  • Provide leadership to the operational team of eight, made up of project managers, product manager, operational specialists and help desk
  • Manage the Assessment work streams of Operational Support and Projects.
  • Overall responsibility of the day to day running of NAPLAN operational activities for ESA
  • Support the Program Director, as a key point of contact to key stakeholders for operational activities within the scope of NAPLAN
  • Oversee the management of triaging of issues for the platform and taking a lead role in setting prioritisation of issues to get them resolved
  • Identify risks and raise issues in a timely manner, as well as working with the Program Director to manage and mitigate risks
  • Coordinate the work effort and output of ESA contractors (e.g. delivery platform vendors) in regard to configuration, environments, resolution of Jira issues and deployments for the program, ensuring they meet requirements
  • Oversee preparation activities so that :

  • user documentation and training are produced and delivered prior to the NAPLAN events
  • support services are prepared prior to the NAPLAN events
  • appropriate application and infrastructure are available for the NAPLAN events
  • team processes are reviewed and documented.
  • About you

  • You have strong leadership skills in team building, task allocation, prioritisation and risk assessment
  • You have a broad knowledge of NAPLAN operational processes and governance
  • You have significant project management experience working in online environments
  • You are a confident and nuanced communicator with a proven ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders
  • You have high-level of organisational skills and proven ability to manage complex tasks concurrently within strict deadlines
  • You have proven ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with emergency situations
  • You have experience working with multiple projects which have a high-level of complexity in a collaborative environment
