The Job Profile
We’re looking for an experienced Production Controller to help shape and deliver exceptional, industry‑leading books. Working closely with the Production Manager and Publishers, the role is responsible for project managing every step of the print production workflow for allocated titles, including full‑colour picture books, re‑formats, bespoke book product and co‑editions. The role will work closely on our rapidly expanding, award‑winning children’s list, while also contributing to selected projects across our adult publishing list at the Production Manager’s direction.
The Role
The Production Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget and on brief to the highest standards of publishing. Core responsibilities include managing schedules; liaising with printers (local and offshore); overseeing pre‑press checks, quality control, and full product checking; managing reprints including corrections; managing production and compliance of foreign language co‑editions; collaborating with sales regarding print runs and compliance checks for retailers; and taking primary responsibility for the accuracy of the production program, schedules and databases for your allocated titles.
The Candidate Profile
The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional abilities in production, project and budget management, be organised, detail‑oriented, and able to set schedules and meet deadlines. Our ideal candidate has proven experience and a strong understanding of the end‑to‑end book production process. We are looking for a commercially‑minded creative thinker who will actively engage in product development in collaboration with our Publishers. Experience within co‑editions, working across colour re‑pro and print, would be highly regarded. We need a strong team player with a flexible approach to the shared workload across our adult and children’s lists, and the ability to make sound independent decisions where necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, InDesign and Acrobat are essential. Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator are highly regarded.
