As Senior UX / Product Designer, you will create exceptional user experiences across Janison's suite of assessment products. Working closely with Product Owners and embedded within Scrum teams, you'll design intuitive interfaces and guide users through complex educational tasks. We need someone with deep empathy for users, a passion for education, and a highly pragmatic approach who thrives in a technology-led environment. You'll need to pick your battles wisely, build compelling cases for design improvements, and find creative solutions within technical constraints while maintaining enthusiasm for creating meaningful experiences that truly support educational outcomes.

With people around Australia, Singapore, Auckland and London you will work as part of a distributed team. Must be willing to work Australian Eastern Standard Time business hours. Preferably located near one of our offices in Sydney, Coffs Harbour or Melbourne.

Duties and Responsibilities Product Design Design exceptional user experiences across multiple products, including flagship Janison Insights (progressively transitioning to Angular Material) and existing platform componentsWork collaboratively with Product Owners to translate requirements into user-centred experiencesGuide users through complex educational tasks with empathy and understanding of diverse user needsCreate wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs primarily using FigmaDesign data visualisations and information hierarchies where needed to support user goalsWork within design systems, focusing on component consistency and systematic approachesBe embedded within product team stand-ups, participate in sprint reviews, and attend backlog refinement sessions as neededWork closely with internal experts including psychometricians, teachers, and item authoring teams to understand user contextsBuild compelling cases for design improvements with engineering teams, understanding technical constraints and effort requiredPresent design concepts to stakeholders, support presales activities, and effectively communicate design value to technical teamsInterpret data independently to identify real opportunities beyond proposed technical solutionsProactively seek out best practices, new design approaches, and emerging technologies including AI applications in UXExperience, Skills and Qualifications 5+ years of experience in UX / UI design or product design, ideally in technology-led environmentsStrong user experience design skills with ability to understand and empathise with diverse user needsExperience designing intuitive interfaces for complex or technical productsProficiency in Figma as primary design toolExperience with design systems, component libraries, or systematic design approachesHighly pragmatic approach with ability to prioritise efforts and build compelling cases for design changesTechnical curiosity with ability to interpret data and understand engineering constraintsResilient mindset that thrives in challenging technical environmentsSelf-motivated proactive learner who seeks out best practices, new ideas, and emerging technologiesHighly Desirable Passion for education and understanding of educational technology challengesExperience with information design, data visualisation, or analytics interfacesExperience with Angular Material, Material Design, or other component-based design systemsExperience working embedded within agile / scrum development teamsKnowledge of accessibility standards and prototyping skills using FigmaInterest in AI applications in user experience designPersonal Attributes Passionate about education and making learning accessibleDeep empathy for users and ability to understand diverse educational contextsHighly pragmatic problem-solver who can strategically choose which design battles to fightThrives in technology-led environments and finds creative solutions within technical constraintsExcellent communicator who can build consensus with engineering teams and justify design decisionsSelf-motivated and proactive in seeking new approaches, best practices, and emerging technologiesResilient and adaptable, maintaining enthusiasm despite technical challengesComfortable working in a distributed team environmentWhat We Offer We are a purpose-driven organisation, offering a 'flexible' approach to work.
