Literacy Tutors

Overview

Members of our Midland and Belmont communities need your help with reading, writing and maths. Some are just beginning to learn English. Others are little more advanced. Teaching qualifications are not necessary, but must have good communication. Free training provides skills and strategies for working with adult students. You will receive a nationally accredited certificate, ongoing support from a local coordinator and other volunteer tutors. You must have excellent grammar, pronunciation, written/spoken English skills and basic maths skills. This role requires a 12 month commitment following your training.

Responsibilities

• Support adults in Midland and Belmont with reading, writing and maths.
• Engage learners at varying levels, including those learning English as a second language.
• Participate in free training and work towards a nationally accredited certificate.

Qualifications

• Teaching qualifications are not necessary, but strong communication is required.
• Excellent grammar, pronunciation, and written/spoken English skills and basic maths skills.
• Commitment to a 12-month engagement following training.

Commitment & Time

• Regular sessions around 2 hours per week.
• Training is provided at induction and ongoing, with a nationally accredited certification.
