DESCRIPTION
The DevOps Engineer is responsible for managing the design, development and operation of specialised systems and applications, with a strong focus on providing highly reliable and performant software infrastructure to the team members of the Scientific Computing group.
About the Role:
- 2.5 year maximum term contract with paid leave (personal, annual, public holidays)
- $95-100K per annum – subject to experience
- Located at the Australian Synchrotron, Clayton Campus
- Flexible working environment in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams
What you will be doing:
- Implement, maintain and support highly reliable and performant infrastructure systems for running software used for high throughput data acquisition, efficient processing of large data volumes and user-driven data analysis.
- Support the members of the Scientific Computing team in deploying their applications on state-of-the-art infrastructure.
- Document changes made to the infrastructure or processes.
- Contribute to the exploration of new technologies, concepts, and best practices in the field of DevOps and computing infrastructure.
- Facilitate and promote the adoption of procedures and best-practises applicable in a modern DevOps-oriented software environment
- Share learnings and findings of new technologies and best practices with the team on a regular basis
Selection Criteria:
- Excellent understanding of container concepts, such as Docker
- Experience with container orchestration systems, such as Kubernetes
- Experience working on Linux based infrastructure
- Experience with implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Experience creating and maintaining virtual machines
- Well developed, effective oral and written communication skills, together with proven abilities in liaising effectively with people at all levels
- Ability to work both as a part of a team and autonomously and an aptitude for self-learning and interest in emerging technologies
