I absolutely love working in Local Government! Sometimes it isn’t easy but the diversity of delivering over 100 services and building and maintaining assets directly for our community of residents and visitors means you won’t be bored, and you will see your role making a difference. Hepburn Shire is an amazing location, with committed staff and Councillors, so why not apply for a role…you won’t be disappointed.
How you’ll make a difference
As a Community Safety Officer, you’ll be a visible and trusted presence across our Shire – helping to create a safe and compliant environment for all. You’ll respond to issues raised by the community, enforce local laws, and carry out inspections that reduce risk and improve amenity. Your work will span animal management, fire prevention, parking enforcement and local law compliance – ensuring that Council’s standards and legislative obligations are met. By combining fieldwork with administrative follow‑through, you’ll help deliver practical outcomes that keep our neighbourhoods safe, connected and thriving.
You’re confident, practical and solutions‑focused. You bring experience in regulatory services or a related field, and the motivation and ability to enforce and administer the relevant provisions of Council’s General Local Law No 2, the Domestic Animals Act (1994) and other Acts and Regulations as specified within the Instrument of Delegation. You’re comfortable managing tasks in the field, making informed decisions and engaging with the public respectfully and consistently. While you work independently, you’re supported by a team that shares responsibility and backs each other up. You understand the importance of applying legislation fairly and effectively to achieve lasting compliance and community safety.
