About us

Vasey RSL Care is a not-for-profit provider of high-quality home and residential aged care services, and affordable accommodation to support the ex-service community and older Australians.

The Housing Officer is responsible for efficient tenancy management of properties managed by the Veteran Services Department. (It is similar to the role of a Property Manager in private real estate.) You will liaise directly with prospective and current renters, who are often vulnerable members of society, so a high level of customer service and empathy will be required.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to :

  • Provide effective customer service assisting with general enquiries and liaising with residents in relation to their property and tenancy via phone, email, in person.
  • Apply, prepare for and represent Vasey RSL Care Ltd at VCAT as required
  • Support the Housing Manager in the effective management of vacancies within the program and collaborate on the allocation of new renters into vacant properties
  • Manage the day to day tasks of the tenancy including conducting entry / exits and routine inspections, completing rent reviews, managing arrears and lease renewals.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and finance teams
  • Collaborate with other services within the Veteran Services Team as well as the broader Vasey RSL Care Ltd operations.
  • Keep meticulous contact notes and documentation in our internal systems
  • Travel across Metropolitan Melbourne, as well as occasional travel to Victorian regional areas will be required. A company car is available.

    About you

    To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine passion for wanting to support vulnerable people in our community and thrive in a dynamic environment.

    You will also have :

  • Agent’s Representative Certificate
  • At least 3 years’ experience in residential real estate property management or community housing
  • Relevant skills and experience in working sensitively with a diverse customer group with complex needs, including those who are in housing crisis.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, organise workload and manage competing demands when necessary
  • Work co-operatively as part of a team and autonomously as required.
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with emphasis on data management, Microsoft Office and property management specific software.
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a caring and empathetic nature.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out duties with a customer service orientation.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check and provide proof of rights to work in Australia
  • Previous experience working in the community sector in areas such as homelessness, advocacy or tenancy support.
  • Studies within the community sector such as community service, disability or mental health.
