Communications Specialist
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Communications Specialist to join our Social Impact & Advocacy team. This role is central to amplifying Uniting’s expertise, ideas and evidence to influence decision makers and drive systemic change across the sectors we operate in.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and grow Uniting’s thought leadership capability by identifying, packaging and promoting work that demonstrates our impact.
- Develop and deliver communications projects and materials for a range of audiences and channels, including digital platforms, sector events, awards and conferences.
- Lead engagement and communications activities for flagship initiatives such as Uniting’s biannual oration, sector reports and awards.
- Build the capacity of colleagues to communicate their work effectively with external audiences.
- Collaborate with Media, Government Relations, Advocacy, Social Innovation and Research teams to ensure our messages reach the right stakeholders in impactful ways.
- Map and track the sectors and audiences we seek to influence, and report on the reach, impact and outcomes of our communications and thought leadership activities.
- Design and coordinate events (in person and online) to showcase our research, practice and innovations.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualitative tertiary qualification in communications, media or a related discipline, with substantial experience in a similar role.Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders. Experience across the not‑for‑profit sector, philanthropy, social research and Government is highly regarded.Strong track record in designing and implementing communications campaigns to share research and thought leadership.Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with proven editorial and content creation expertise.Experience in planning and coordinating sector events and engagement activities.Ability to work across a wide range of subject areas with creativity, flexibility and sound judgement.Proven capacity to work independently in fast‑paced environments, solving problems and delivering results.Desirable
Experience in content production across multiple platforms (digital and print).Knowledge of policy and / or practice in at least one field relevant to Uniting’s work.Experience or knowledge of social impact innovation, research and / or social policy advocacy.Strong skills in partnership development and stakeholder management.What We Offer You
