About the Program
LMA has entered into an arrangement with BAE, Saab and CoA (MIWS) for the execution of all Combat System Integration work related to the Aegis Surface Combatant fleet.

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced senior engineer to join the CSI-IPT DDG programme as the Design Approval Engineer (DAE) – Fire Control Loop, a delegated Technical Authority role supporting the Hobart Class Destroyer upgrade.
In this critical position, you will discharge engineering obligations on behalf of the CSI-IPT DDG Systems Technical Authority (STA), ensuring combat system subsystem designs, artefacts and services meet certification, seaworthiness and governance requirements.
You will provide authoritative oversight across the Combat Management Subsystem, Above Water Weapons Subsystem and Very Short Range Defence, contributing directly to the certification and delivery of one of Australia's most complex naval combat systems.
This role operates at the intersection of engineering governance, certification, stakeholder engagement and technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Support the DDG STA in establishing and maintaining engineering and technical authority frameworks
Define and uphold technical competency and SQEP standards across assigned subsystems
Review, approve and release engineering plans, procedures, designs and artefacts for mandated system reviews and delivery milestones
Compile and maintain Objective Quality Evidence to support subsystem Design Certification
Prepare and endorse Judgements of Significance (JoS) in collaboration with Program Engineering Managers
Independently approve seaworthiness aspects of designs, including safety, cyber and fitness for purpose
Approve technical plans and deviations from the engineering management system
Provide timely advice to the DDG STA on risks, issues and certification impacts
Act as a delegate to the DDG STA when required
About you
You are a senior combat systems engineer with deep experience in engineering governance, platform integration and system-of-systems delivery. You bring credibility as a technical authority and enjoy mentoring others while navigating complex stakeholder environments.
You'll bring :
Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and / or equivalent relevant experience in Defence or complex logistics projects
Extensive experience across the full systems engineering lifecycle in complex military systems
Senior-level experience in combat system integration, test and evaluation on naval or equivalent platforms
Strong understanding of engineering governance, certification and naval materiel frameworks
Proven ability to balance complex engineering trade-offs in system-of-systems environments
Experience guiding, mentoring and developing engineers and technical leaders
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills
Prior exposure to DDG Combat Systems or the DDG Enterprise (highly regarded)
An active NV-1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information
