Your Opportunity

As the Manager, Health Management, your role will lead and manage workers compensation policies and claims, manage work related and non-work related injuries, and partner with the business and external agencies. The role is responsible for leading regionally disbursed team of experienced health and injury management specialists in undertaking workplace based recovery and return to work, complex case management, case reviews, driving continuous improvement of relevant policies, procedures and systems of work, and providing accurate and consistent advice. You will improve injury management and return to work outcomes for TAFE Queensland.

This position reports to the Director, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, TAFE Queensland Corporate.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.

The position will be based primarily at Mount Gravatt Campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the workers compensation portfolio across Australia and implement initiatives to achieve injury management objectives and targets and reduce workers compensation impacts.
  • Take a lead role in managing the entire cycle of workers compensation, including dispute management, rehabilitation management and action plans, cost containment, premium management and claimant / employee interaction and maintain strong relationships with insurers and regulators.
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and ongoing embedding of the Workplace Health Management service delivery model for TAFE Queensland.
  • Provide high level advice as the key internal subject matter expert to ensure high quality, consistent practice and professionalism across TAFE Queensland.
  • Provide a high level of coaching, support and advice to Health Management team members, clients, key stakeholders, senior management and executives on health, rehabilitation and wellbeing matters to build capability and embed a strong safety culture across a complex and geographically dispersed organisation.
  • Lead a regionally disbursed team of experienced health and injury management specialists in undertaking workplace based recovery and return to work, complex case management, case reviews, driving continuous improvement of relevant policies, procedures and systems of work, and providing accurate and consistent advice.
  • Manage and coordinate the capture of data and information relating to rehabilitation and case management to identify risks, monitor performance, measure effectiveness of interventions and provide statistical reports, with the aim of improving rehabilitation case management and return to work outcomes in accordance with legislative and corporate obligations.
  • Manage quality consultancy services through partnering and mentoring managers in relation to early injury management, complex and sensitive matters specific to their particular business environment.
  • Interpret legislation and in consultation with the Director, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, formulate risk management strategies for Divisional businesses to foster timely risk elimination or reduction while safeguarding service delivery.
  • Actively promote, lead, and facilitate ill health management interventions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment to existing and contemporary industrial frameworks, employment directives and relevant TAFE Queensland policies and procedures for managing ill health.
  • Lead the delivery of workforce development projects focussing on Workplace Health Management for all regions across TAFE Queensland.
  • Represent and participate in sector-wide working groups and forums, cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and management of TAFE Queensland’s Health Management framework.
  • Establish and maintain networks and liaise with officers from other agencies and other external bodies to promote and monitor contemporary injury management matters.
  • Prepare and present high-level reports and briefings relating to a range of complex case management issues and initiatives in accordance with TAFE Queensland requirements.
  • Develop and review documentation, submissions, briefing notes, policies, procedures, internal website content on health, rehabilitation, and wellbeing issues and initiatives.

  • Dealing with sensitive, confidential, and potentially serious and potentially traumatic matters with broader organisational and industry implications and providing recommendations using subject matter expertise.
  • How you will be assessed

    The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities :

  • Expert level interpretation and application of contemporary legislation, awards, agreements, directives, policies and procedures in workers compensation and injury management.
  • Demonstrated ability in delivering a sustainable and effective workers compensation and injury management service delivery model to a large and complex business.
  • Proven experience in building and sustaining productive stakeholder relationships and working collaboratively to foster a positive and cohesive work environment.
  • Strong communicator with excellent negotiation, facilitation, written and verbal skills including the ability to communicate sensitive and strategic issues to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of the organisation through modelling of behaviours and the provision of outstanding client service.
  • Highly Desirable Requirements

  • A formal qualification in Case Management (Personal Injury), Human Resources, Allied Health or Workplace Health and Safety, is highly desirable.
  • Previous leadership experience in workers compensation and injury management within a large complex organisation or government department.
  • The successful candidate will be required to possess a current drivers’ licence.
