The Senior AOD Clinician will supervise a team of 4 to 5 AOD Clinicians in addition to a small case load of residents and the facilitation of groups throughout the week.

This role is responsible for overseeing the clinical services to residents within the program and making sure they are provided with best practice outcomes. Whilst they are in treatment the goal is to address risk taking behavioural patterns and develop lifestyles of self-determined purpose.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Senior AOD Clinician provides case management to a caseload of up to 5 residents, this includes residents that are currently in the program on site and those that are in integration. The Senior AOD Clinician will supervise the AOD Clinicians including regular clinical supervision, observations, mentoring, audits etc and ensure that they are delivering high quality interventions through case management and counselling.

  • Oversee and monitor treatment and intervention plans, making sure that the AOD Clinicians are aligning them with individual client goals.
  • Provide case management, advocacy, referrals support and therapeutic interventions to residents accessing residential rehabilitation services including assessment and interventions to ensure timely and appropriate referrals.
  • Initiate case management responsibilities, taking on primary responsibility for a caseload of clients.
  • Provide evidence base therapeutic interventions and programs inclusive of various modalities of individual and group supervision.
  • Utilises brief interventions, de‑escalation strategies and motivational interviewing and other strategies to motivate residents in treatment.
  • Facilitate group interventions focused on a range of treatment modalities including psychoeducation, trauma-informed care, relapse prevention, and other therapeutic interventions when required.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the AOD clinician team, including team meetings and allocation of workload / cases.
  • Oversee and nurture collaboration and engagement across multiple specialised teams within a program or area, creating a thriving ecosystem of high-performance teams.
  • Ensure the team’s caseload of residents have current and relevant individual treatment plans, risk assessments and safety plans.
  • Provide expert advice and support team members regarding case management practices and manages complex client cases when needed.
  • Ensure the team’s caseload of residents receive appropriate advocacy support across a range of services included but not limited to housing finance and medical.
  • What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years’ experience working as an AOD Clinician or similar position within Alcohol and Other Drugs sector.
  • Experience managing, supervising and leading a team to achieve strategic and operational outcomes, with an understanding on effective staff management strategies and practices.
  • Strong experience in case management and conducting drug withdrawal and physical health assessments and risk management strategies.
  • High level of interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both with an ability to communicate effectively to diverse group of people with complex needs with compassion.
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to adapt and reprioritise as required based on the needs of the program and residents.
  • Strong professional written case noting skills.
  • Advanced therapeutic skills with extensive knowledge experience in the drug and alcohol service system, including trauma-informed care and knowledge of principles of harm minimisation relating to illicit drug use.
  • Ability to deliver group-based interventions and programs, including group work, psycho‑education facilitation and de‑escalate conflict using appropriate strategies and techniques.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Youth Work, Mental Health or other similar health‑discipline.
  • Certificate IV in AOD or 4 AOD core competencies.
