At SuperSmile Orthodontist, we provide high-quality, patient-focused orthodontic care in a fun and professional environment. We're seeking a skilled and experienced Dental Hygienist to join our team across three locations in Canberra City, Aranda, and Tuggeranong.
Description of the Position
The Dental Hygienist is responsible for delivering preventive and therapeutic oral health care services to patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. The role involves independent clinical assessment, preventive treatment, patient education and collaboration with Orthodontists to support optimal oral health outcomes throughout the course of treatment.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Orthodontists to follow treatment plans, prepare teeth for orthodontic appliances to be fitted, remove appliances, perform arch wire changes and more.
- Monitor dental hygiene throughout orthodontic treatment and conduct comprehensive oral health assessments.
- Educate and instruct patients and their families on oral hygiene and preventive care.
- Remove dental plaque and calculus deposits to maintain oral hygiene.
- Apply preventive therapies including fluoride treatments and other remineralising agents to minimise the risk of demineralisation.
- Maintain patient records and collaborate with the team to ensure exceptional care.
- Take impressions for Orthodontic appliances.
- Take pre-treatment diagnostic records: 3D scans, dental radiographs and clinical photographs.
- Administer local anaesthesia via filtration and mandibular nerve block when clinically required.
Required Qualifications for the position
- Bachelor degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Oral Health therapy or Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution
- Radiation license
- Must be registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

- 2 years minimum Dental Hygiene work experience
- Excellent clinical skills and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities to build trust with patients
- Experience working in Orthodontics is not needed, although is highly desirable
