SIMEC is progressing several projects which will deliver transformational change to Whyalla and the Iron Ore business to achieve its GREENSTEEL goals.

As part of the Magnetite Expansion and Growth team, we have an opportunity for an experienced Principal Mine Planning Engineer to be responsible for maximising resource value extraction from our asset base across multiple mine sites. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding role which will assist in enabling the continued success and sustainability of the SIMEC Mining business.

Working across the operations, projects and growth workstreams, you will be responsible for :

  • Ensuring robust mine planning solutions are optimised for value contribution to the business
  • Strategic scheduling, optimisation, mine design and life of mine planning to extract maximum resource value
  • Connection of Life of Mine plans to the medium-term planning function
  • Deliver the mining component of growth studies aligned to corporate objectives
  • Provide support to the Magnetite transformation project and integration into the business plan, and support the business growth aspirations

This role is core to delivering the strategy which underpins a robust mining business for the long term.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Mining Engineer, who can hit the ground running, with prior open-cut and hard rock experience. You are self-motivated with the ability to make informed decisions, develop concepts and problem solve in an evolving and dynamic environment.

Your will have :

  • Tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering
  • Previous experience in large scale mine sites, with a combination of mine planning and operational roles
  • Mine planning experience in open pit operations
  • Deep understanding of the mining value chain and value levers, with demonstrated success in optimisation to unlock resource potential
  • Iron Ore experience is highly regarded
