Job description

About Veritable

Veritable is a trusted NDIS-registered provider committed to supporting individuals and families to live more independently and confidently. We focus on person-centred care, dignity, and community inclusion across our range of social and disability support services.

About the Role

We are looking for a qualified and compassionate psychotherapist to join our Alice Springs team. In this role, you'll work closely with individuals, families, and service providers to assess needs, develop care plans, and support clients with the right services to meet their needs.

Why Join Veritable

Work with a supportive and purpose-driven organisation.

Make a real difference in the lives of people in the Alice Springs community.

Enjoy ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.

If you're a dedicated allied health professional who values integrity, care, and empowerment, we'd love to hear from you.

Position Description

You will be providing psychotherapeutic assessment and interventions for young people and adults with disability (primarily NDIS participants), using evidence-based approaches to support emotional wellbeing, behavioural adjustment, and cognitive functioning. This will include providing assessment and treatment of mental and emotional disorders using psychotherapeutic methods such as behavioural therapy, biofeedback, relaxation (coping and tolerance) therapy, and other evidence-based techniques.

You will work closely with individuals, families, service providers and community organisations to collect data, assess cognitive, behavioural and emotional functioning, conduct individual and carer interviews, review relevant information, and develop specialist support and treatment plans based on diagnostic assessment and psychotherapeutic formulation.

You will ensure clients have appropriate therapeutic and community services in place. You will play a key role in improving client wellbeing, promoting human rights, and building more inclusive communities.

Interventions will be delivered within a positive behaviour support framework, with a focus on assessment, counselling, casework, advocacy, training and connection to community.

You will work with clients who may have complex needs, including contact with the justice or acute mental health systems, children’s services, homelessness, anxiety or situational crisis. Many clients are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and some may be under adult guardianship.

You will also contribute to continuous improvement, research, and evaluation of therapeutic methods and client outcomes.

This is a full-time role based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. You will work locally and require the skills to establish rapport and make connections with families and support services, including cross-culturally and in remote Aboriginal communities.

Short trips to remote communities may be requested for specific referrals or clients on the caseload. Supervision and professional development will be provided to support the use of diagnostic and assessment tools, data collection and interpretation, and treatment planning. You will compile case notes and reports, monitor progress, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyse data to assess cognitive, behavioural and emotional disorders and support needs, including through use of structured diagnostic tools, clinical interviews and observations.
  • Administer and interpret psychotherapeutic screening and outcome measures within scope of practice (and refer for psychological testing to a registered psychologist when required) and formulate evidence-based treatment plans based on assessment.
  • Develop and review personalised treatment and support plans with clear goals, timeframes and outcome measures.
  • Provide individual and, where appropriate, group therapeutic interventions, including behavioural therapy, biofeedback, relaxation therapy, and other therapeutic methods appropriate to the client’s needs.
  • Engage and collaborate with clients, their representatives, and families, to formulate and review treatment and support plans, including providing training for carers to implement intervention plans.
  • Support clients to link to mainstream and specialist services as part of holistic treatment interventions.
  • Provide counselling within scope of practice and organisational needs, while supporting client rights, safety and participation.
  • Collaborate with allied health professionals and stakeholders on treatment plans and case details to improve service coordination and client outcomes.
  • Conduct risk, safety and functional assessments, escalate concerns and implement agreed risk management actions.
  • Monitor client progress, maintain accurate case notes and compile reports consistent with organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data, research and observation to evaluate outcomes and adjust treatment interventions.
  • Identify any use of restrictive practices in client environments and work proactively with stakeholders to reduce and cease such practices in line with policy and best practice.
  • Implement interventions consistent with NDIS requirements and positive behaviour support principles, focusing on improving emotional regulation, adaptive skills, and community participation.
  • Contribute to single subject research and review activities, including studies of motivating operations, behaviour, group contingencies, and individual differences in emotional or cognitive functioning.
  • Under direction of a senior professional, contribute to organisational behaviour management needs, service research projects, audits or program reviews as relevant.

To Be Successful

  • Qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy (a degree in Psychology or Social Work will be considered where the program includes substantial theoretical and supervised practical training in psychotherapy and / or counselling) (mandatory)
  • Minimum two years relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated supervised practical training in psychotherapy and / or counselling is preferred

  • NT Working With Children Check (Ochre Card) (or ability to obtain).
  • Current driver's licence, access to personal vehicle with insurance
  • Ability to travel locally and to remote communities (company vehicle used for remote trips).
  • Strong communication, empathy and case management skills.
  • Evidence-based, person-centred practice grounded in a human-rights framework.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to supervision, reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to meet agreed billable hours (KPIs) while maintaining quality of care.
  • Australian work rights are accepted including valid work visas.
  • Salary and Benefits
