About the Role

The Infrastructure Safety and Risk Section provides specialised advice and oversight on all areas of construction work undertaken for Canberra Health Services, including planned and reactive maintenance, minor and major projects on brown and greenfield sites. The section is involved at all stages of construction – from concept through design, delivery, commissioning and demolition – especially in an operating health care environment where complex challenges arise.

The Assistant Director provides the Branch with accurate and timely advice to ensure safety legislative requirements are adhered to. Key responsibilities include reviewing and monitoring the Safety Management System, ensuring compliance by staff and contractors, and attending senior level meetings, briefings and forums. The position is based at North Canberra Hospital in Bruce, with an initial six‑month placement at The Canberra Hospital in Garran.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and monitor the Safety Management System and ensure compliance with safety legislation.
  • Provide accurate and timely advice to the Branch on safety issues.
  • Attend senior level meetings, briefings and forums.
  • Qualifications & Requirements

  • Compliance with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Relevant experience in health services infrastructure safety and risk management (implied by role).
