COUNSELLOR

The Opportunity

The Counsellor provides a professional counselling service to TAFE SA students and provides a consultancy service to teaching staff. The Counsellor is responsible for the provision of student support in the areas of wellbeing, financial information, crisis, conflicts and complaints, personal stresses, and the provision and evaluation of appropriate support to students experiencing a disability. The incumbent exercises initiative and judgement and will work collaboratively with others in meeting TAFE SA strategic objectives.

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum Degree level qualification in the areas of Counselling, Social Work or Psychology. Eligibility for membership of relevant a professional body will be highly regarded. I.e. AASW, MAPS, ACA.
• Experience in professional counselling services and the provision of a broad range of intervention strategies including mediation, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution.
• Experience working with a diverse client group including people with disabilities, at risk and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to respond to a range of complex issues such as mental illness, harassment, substance abuse and domestic violence or other relationship dysfunction.

What You Need to Know

A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the South Australian Department of Human Services is required before employment.
