Our Opportunity

Location : Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak - Fortescue’s Chichester Hub is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster : 8D / 6R - FIFO from Perth, Busselton, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Fitzroy Crossing, and Kununurra.

Reporting to the Welding Coordinator, the Welding Inspector will be responsible for ensuring compliance with welding standards, maintaining quality control, and supporting continuous improvement efforts across Fortescue's operational sites. The role requires technical expertise in welding processes, documentation review, and inspection activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align with Fortescue values and safety culture, promoting safe work practices through field interactions with workgroups.
  • Audit the welding quality management system in accordance with AS / NZS ISO 3834, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Create, review, and approve welding-related documentation, including ITPs, WPS, welder qualifications, weld maps, drawings, and MDRs, ensuring adherence to relevant specifications.
  • Conduct site visits, inspect welded joints (fit-up, during, and post-welding), and supervise welding operations as needed to ensure compliance with specifications and industry best practices.
  • Manage technical queries with stakeholders, coordinate welder qualification activities, oversee NDT operations, and generate NDT requests.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues, provide practical solutions, and stay updated on industry trends, codes, and regulations to ensure engineering excellence and quality improvements.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Hold one or more current welding certifications (CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2, IWI-S, AS 2214 or AS 1796 Certificate 11 or 10 Welding Supervision).
  • Extensive practical experience in welding inspections and within an ISO 3834 accredited quality system.
  • Knowledge of Australian and international structural and pressure vessel welding codes, WHS Act 2020 and regulations 2022.
  • Highly developed understanding of non-destructive testing processes and techniques.
  • Current WA Driver's Licence and ability to work in remote site locations.
