About the role

The Advertising major is a key component of the Bachelor of Communications and Media (Sydney), as well as the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degrees and is often paired with disciplines such as Marketing and Public Relations.

In Communications, Advertising sits alongside the creative and applied disciplines of film and screen production, as well as communication through journalism, English literature, and theatre studies.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to an evolving Communications and Media program, focusing on strategic communications, social media, and creative content across diverse platforms.

We are seeking an academic with industry or production experience and strong theoretical knowledge in advertising and strategic communication to inspire and prepare students for dynamic careers.

Key Responsibilities

Teach Advertising courses with a focus on contemporary developments in advertising and strategic communications, incorporating social media and diverse platforms to create engaging learning experiences.

Design and develop innovative curriculum informed by current industry trends and scholarly research, ensuring technology-enhanced and relevant content.

Actively contribute to the design and development of curriculum with reference to contemporary advancements in Advertising and strategic communications.

Coordinate and manage course delivery, including oversight of sessional academic staff where required, while providing academic mentoring and support to students.

Qualifications and experience

Lecturer (Level B)

Possession of, or progress toward, a doctoral qualification or relevant postgraduate qualifications in Advertising, Strategic Communications, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent accreditation and standing.

Professional experience, creative achievement, or technical expertise relevant to the discipline, with a commitment to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation.

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

Possession of a doctoral qualification in Advertising, Strategic Communications, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent accreditation and standing.

Strong record of scholarly and professional achievement.

Significant experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, or professional contributions relevant to the discipline, with a commitment to curriculum development.

Knowledge, Skills and abilities :

Demonstrated experience teaching advertising / strategic communications in a Higher Education context.

Evidence of research and / or professional practice in Advertising, Strategic Communications, or a relevant discipline.

Proven ability to develop and deliver courses in areas such as Advertising Design, Creative Advertising, Communication Strategies, and Integrated Marketing Communications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, incorporating innovative technologies and approaches to teaching and learning.
