About North East Link

The Spark Consortium has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project. The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity

As the Environment Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the North East Link project meets all environmental requirements. You will oversee environmental compliance, implement sustainable practices, and cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility throughout the project. You will lead the development and execution of the Project Environmental Management System, ensuring that environmental objectives are achieved and that the project sets new standards for sustainability.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain and oversee the implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan and related documents.
  • Lead environmental technical assessments and management solutions.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and advise on mitigation measures.
  • Coordinate with environmental consultancies for technical assessments and monitoring.
  • Manage key environmental monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Advise construction personnel on environmental control measures.
  • Liaise with environmental authorities and participate in community consultation forums.

Background and experience required :

  • Degree in Environmental Science and / or Engineering.
  • Experience in environmental compliance within a construction environment.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Environmental, Risk, Sustainability, Project Management, or related fields.
  • Over 5 years of experience in construction environment management.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental statutes and legislation.
  • Familiarity with quality and risk management systems.
  • Experience in training and facilitating high-risk environmental activities.
  • Proficiency in environmental risk assessment and control development.
  • Expertise in incident investigations and reporting.
  • Ability to lead complex investigations with multiple parties.
