Phoenix Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated, capable and experienced Deputy Principal to join their collaborative leadership team. This leader will ideally enjoy working in a busy multicultural school which is an integral part of the local community. Phoenix PS is working constantly to engage with their community through a broad range of communication strategies.

The Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and community. Through the engagement of staff in professional learning and the implementation of evidence based programs, they will lead the teaching and learning in the English, Humanities and Social Sciences and Social and Emotional learning. Working in a collaborative environment, they would have experience in mentoring and supporting other learning area leaders. Our whole school teaching and learning programs ensure consistency through the years and give the children opportunities to be taught at their level and point of need. The Deputy Principal will work with small groups of students in a teaching role, providing them with the skills for their future learning.

A key component is self-motivated learning through self-reflection related to the Business Plan and the school priorities. A sound knowledge of the curriculum and the whole school programs in literacy and numeracy will be highly regarded, as well as the ability to lead staff in data analysis, facilitate classroom observations and feedback, and provide professional learning. As a curriculum leader they are integral to the planning and operational aspects of the committees within the school.

Phoenix PS is focussed on high performance and high care through an improvement agenda. The Deputy Principal leads the student support services and the positive behaviour management processes of the school. In addition to generic Deputy Principal duties, the successful applicant will ideally have experience in disability services, attendance, students at educational risk and represent the leadership team on whole school committees, the Network with wider participation on committees. Sound knowledge of the Cultural Aboriginal Standards Framework, English as Additional Language Dialect (EALD), HRMIS, Recruitment Advertising Management Systems (RAMS) and Integris is important. Knowledge of National Quality Standard would be advantageous.

Phoenix PS is an Independent Public School, situated to the south of Fremantle, near North Coogee in Hamilton Hill. Our school currently has 280 children from Kindergarten to Year 6. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students ( Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
