Cyber Security Specialist – Offensive Security & Vulnerability Management

Location : Canberra, ACT

Are you an experienced cyber security specialist with skills in penetration testing, red teaming, or vulnerability management? We are seeking a professional to deliver a broad range of offensive security services and support the maturity of vulnerability management processes in a secure federal government environment. This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced testing, simulations, and proactive security improvements across multiple platforms.

Key Duties

  • Penetration Testing : Perform closed-box, open-box, and double-blind penetration tests across internal systems, external applications, APIs, hardware, and cloud services.
  • Red and Purple Team Exercises : Lead or support simulated cyberattack exercises to test defensive response and improve organisational resilience.
  • Social Engineering Exercises : Conduct phishing simulations and related tests to evaluate human-factor vulnerabilities.
  • Vulnerability Management : Conduct configuration reviews, enhance vulnerability assessment processes, and maintain the Tenable vulnerability management platform.

Key Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in penetration testing using multiple methodologies and for diverse technical environments.
  • Experience conducting red team / purple team exercises and social engineering assessments.
  • Familiarity with Tenable or similar vulnerability management tools and best-practice remediation workflows.
  • Strong understanding of secure system configuration, vulnerability assessments, and cyber risk mitigation.
