About the Authority
The Net Zero Economy Act 2024 (NZEA Act) established the Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) as a statutory agency in December 2024. The authority is presently establishing itself as a separate entity, including off-boarding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). The authority is expected to transition shortly to being a separate entity from PM&C, at which time, all employees will transfer under Machinery of Government (MoG) changes to the authority. Our vision is to deliver a better future for industrial regions, communities and workers in a net zero economy.
To deliver on our vision, we have defined three core missions that guide our efforts :
About the Roles
We have a number of Policy and Program, Executive Level 1 Assistant Director roles available across the authority. As an Assistant Director, you will be expected to work under limited direction with accountability for outcomes that are relevant to your specific role and likely manage a small team of staff. Assistant Directors are also encouraged to take a leadership role within the broader Divisions and across the authority, helping to support and motivate others, engage with the Executive, represent the authority and the Commonwealth and work independently with key stakeholders.
General responsibilities and duties for the for the Executive Level 1 level are outlined in the Work Level Standards, and additional key responsibilities and priorities can be found in the downloadable candidate information pack.
Our Ideal Candidates
We are looking for candidates with strong strategic thinking, flexibility and the ability to work in fast-paced and dynamic environments. We are also looking for motivated people with an interest in supporting Australia’s transition to net zero and working on the challenges facing regional workers and communities.
In addition to meeting the behaviours outlined in the Integrated Leadership System profile of the Executive Level 1 level, our ideal candidates will have :
Desirable Skills & Experience
Candidates who have experience in the following areas will be highly regarded.
Flexibility arrangements
At PM&C we recognise the broad benefits of offering flexibility in how, when and where work is performed. We consider flexibility first from a starting position of ‘how can we make this work?’ and consider individual circumstances and operational requirements in making genuine attempts to establish mutually beneficial arrangements. Please reach out to the contact officer if you would like to explore what flexibility might look like for you, such as part time work, variable start and finish times or working from home.
