Location : McRobies Waste Station Employment status : Permanent, Full-time Classification : Municipal Officer Level 3

Agreement : Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement 2024

Salary range : $91,138 to $93,969 per annum + 13.5% superannuation.

About the role

As the Supervisor Waste Management Centre , you'll oversee operational performance, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality delivery of Waste Management Centre and Resource Recovery operations.

Role accountabilities include :

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the Waste Management Centre, including people, budgets, plant, safety, customer service and site performance.
  • Play a key role in transitioning the site from traditional landfilling to a modern resource-recovery and circular economy model.
  • Manage reporting, compliance and governance requirements to ensure high-quality, transparent operations.
  • Support landfill rehabilitation and progressive closure works, preparing the site for post-landfill operations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement through regular audits and performance review.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental licences while contributing to new resource recovery and circular economy initiatives.
  • You’re a driven and capable leader with hands-on experience in waste services delivery, backed by a relevant tertiary qualification or strong practical expertise. You thrive in fast-paced operational environments, confidently leading teams and contractors to deliver safe, efficient, and high-performing outcomes. Known for your sound judgement, you provide trusted operational advice to senior leaders and contribute to strategic goals that shape the future of waste and resource recovery.

    You will have experience in budgets, contracts, and stakeholder engagement, also bringing strong communication and conflict-resolution skills, a flexible team-focused approach, and hold a current Driver’s Licence and Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
