Location : Middle Swan

Work Type : Fixed Term - Full Time

Swan Christian College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English Teacher to join our Senior School teaching team. This is a 12‑month parental leave cover role commencing January 2026, with the possibility of an ongoing role for the right candidate.

The successful applicant will be an educator who inspires a love of literature and language in students. They will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous English programs that foster critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills.

The teacher will work collaboratively with a supportive and experienced English Department, contributing to the continued academic and personal growth of our students in alignment with the College's values and curriculum standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach timetabled classes using varied, effective, and differentiated strategies, ensuring all students achieve at least a year's growth for a year's progress, including appropriate remediation and extension activities.
  • Engage students behaviorally, emotionally, and cognitively, while demonstrating compassionate care for their spiritual, emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Use data to inform teaching practices and monitor student progress, maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records through platforms such as SEQTA.
  • Provide timely, evidence‑based feedback to students and parents, both formally and informally, including written reports, parent‑student events, and regular communication.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning Area and wider College staff, communicating student wellbeing concerns promptly to relevant personnel such as the Dean of Years, Chaplain, Counsellors, or College Executive.
  • Perform additional duties as required, including yard supervision, internal relief, College events, staff meetings, and actively uphold and follow College policies in all matters.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and is an active member of a Christian Church, living in accordance with the Association’s Statement of Faith and Educational Objectives.
  • Builds and maintains strong, respectful relationships with families, College staff, and SCEA Head Office.
  • Possesses exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration and engagement.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities, able to act with initiative and respond well under pressure.
  • Holds a current Working with Children Check and valid TRBWA registration.
  • Desirable

  • A demonstrated ability to effectively deliver the WA English Curriculum.
  • Effective organisational skills regarding lesson planning, marking and reporting requirements.
  • Competent in the use of technology applications in an educational setting.
