Advanced Occupational Therapist – Team Lead for Major Trauma

The closing date is 05 November 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Occupational Therapy department to team lead the Major Trauma team.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to work with patients who have experienced major trauma in both the Acute and Rehab inpatient setting.

This will offer you experience in leading a team including day to day leadership in the team, staff supervision, appraisal, teaching and education, development of staff and the service.

The role involves close working with the MDT as well as Senior Leaders within the Division. There will also be close working with senior leadership in Occupational Therapy with the opportunity to deliver the OT strategy and vision.

The Occupational Therapy department offers opportunities to take part in a research symposium and opportunities for innovation in an ever changing environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide highly specialised acute and early rehabilitation to patients on the major trauma pathway.
  • Lead team members of the Occupational Therapy team and ensure delivery of the highest possible standard of service, including teaching, induction and development of staff and students.
  • Lead your team in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service on a day-to-day basis.
  • Be an integral part of the Major Trauma Service, working alongside the multidisciplinary team, including Consultants, Specialist Nurses and Specialist AHPs, in both the acute setting and the Rehab Ward.

  • or the Trust has agreed that they will sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

  • Occupational Therapist registered with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Degree or Diploma of Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence of relevant C.P.D. in line with HCPC guidelines
  • Fieldwork educators certificate or equivalent
  • Member of R.C.O.T.
  • Evidence of further study / research in clinical specialty
  • Member of relevant Special Interest Group / Specialist section
  • Evidence of management / leadership training
  • Working to a level of expertise, knowledge and judgement commensurate with MSc
  • Experience

  • Significant recent experience in relevant field of practice
  • Close working with Multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising Occupational Therapy staff / students
  • Provision and requisition of occupational therapy equipment
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Business planning.
  • Team leadership
  • Experience in community setting
  • Experience in adult rehabilitation.
  • Experience of conducting recruitment & selection procedure
  • Knowledge

  • Awareness of current research and treatment applications.
  • Knowledge of relevant governmental guidelines.
  • Understanding of legal responsibilities of the profession e.g. RCOT and HCPC guidelines and codes of ethic and professional conduct.
  • Assessment and treatment of relevant patient groups
  • To be competent in all stages of the OT process.
  • Experience of research and evidence based practice.
  • Appraisal process and implementation.
  • Research and Audit participation.
  • Experience of dealing with people who display inappropriate behaviour (e.g. physical or verbal).
