Location / Division Specific Information

This role is based onsite at our Kent Street, Woolloongabba, Brisbane site and includes shift working. The Thermo Fisher Scientific site in Brisbane manufactures products for clinical trials and commercial applications. The Bioprocess Scientist will be focused on determining the impact of situations on product quality, yield, EH&S, and cGMP compliance.

About the Role :

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking USP Bioprocess Scientist II to join our world-class manufacturing team in Brisbane. This role is uniquely positioned to make a significant impact by successfully implementing innovative biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. This role is open to entry-level candidates who have some industry work experience.

What You'll Do :

Key Responsibilities :

  • Operate USP unit operations and equipment (Single Use Bioreactors, shake flask, Wave Bioreactors, clarification processes) within a GMP environment flawlessly.
  • Work within unit operations in accordance with production protocols and planning schedules in a clean room environment under cGMP conditions.
  • Review, revise, and author manufacturing batch records and material reconciliation.
  • Strictly adhere to Patheon Biologics cGMP Quality Management System and EH&S requirements.
  • Lead deviation investigations to streamline and improve internal processes.
  • Propose and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions, supporting the closure of Deviation Reports.
  • Lead lean (OE) initiatives and continuous improvements.
  • Identify practical problems, propose solutions, and communicate them to the responsible persons.
  • Support Department functions, including maintaining production suites, supplies, equipment, logbooks, and data compliance.
  • Review and write quality GMP documentation.
  • Liaise with suppliers on technical issues.
  • Perform any additional tasks required for day-to-day operational activities.
  • Be available for shift, on-call roster, and scheduled weekend work as required, with appropriate remuneration.
  • Adhere to EH&S processes and ensure a safe workplace. Report hazardous conditions, incidents, and participate in EH&S activities.

Keys to Success : Education :

  • Preferably a tertiary education in science or engineering based field (i.e. biopharmaceuticals manufacture, biotechnology, process technology).
  • Skills & Experience :

  • At least 1 year of proven industry work experience within the bio (pharmaceutical) fields or similar.
  • Good knowledge and working in cGMP environment is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some experience with Wave Bioreactors and cell culture passaging would be advantageous but is not essential.
