Registered Nurse - Withdrawal Unit

Lives Lived WellNone, Australia
Job description

$108,000 - $116,000 + Super and Salary Packaging

Lives Lived Well offer a variety of community and residential Alcohol and Other Drug programs throughout Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia, helping thousands of people every year to navigate alcohol and other drug (AOD) related challenges and move forward in life.

A new Residential AOD Treatment Facility designed to deliver high-quality, specialist residential AOD treatment services for adults aged 18 years and over is opening in Ipswich. The centre will provide a total of 46 beds, comprising 36 beds for residential rehabilitation and 10 beds for withdrawal management and care.

As a Withdrawal Nurse, you’ll be at the heart of our dedicated 10-bed detox unit, supporting clients as they take positive steps toward recovery. From managing medical needs to guiding clients through their transition into residential rehabilitation, you’ll play a key role in helping people reduce their substance use and take meaningful steps toward a healthier, more hopeful future.

This is a permanent position working either 4 or 5 days per week (Monday–Friday) with an hourly rate of $54-58 per hour with ongoing training and development opportunities. The role is within the Withdrawal Unit, with some “lean into” the Rehabilitation service, providing group training on health and wellbeing programs.

LLW is proud to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and diverse communities. We encourage you to apply and help us build a workplace that reflects and respects our shared values.

What we are looking for

Bringing experience in the AOD, Mental Health or Aged Care sector – you will have the clinical knowledge to support clients undergoing mild-to-moderate AOD withdrawal and support early stages of their recovery journey. Key clinical duties include :

  • Delivering direct nursing care to clients undergoing withdrawal, including clinical assessment, medication administration and monitoring of physical and psychological symptoms
  • Responding to changing clinical situations with appropriate nursing interventions
  • Managing client check-ups and medication reviews for GPs and working closely with broader health professionals including pharmacists to ensure coordinated care
  • Medication management including documentation and governance
  • Ability to deliver group sessions, engage clients in counselling conversations and retain them in treatment
  • We operate under the Aged Care legislation so an understanding of this model would be beneficial

You will need to have a tertiary qualification in Nursing and hold current AHPRA registration.

Coupled with your clinical skill set, you will also have :

  • An understanding of how Withdrawal and Residential live-in programs work and be comfortable in this environment, which can include challenging situations
  • Excellent rapport building skills – you’ll be liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, so strong working relationships are important
  • A genuine dedication to helping people to reduce their substance use and improve their life journey
  • A flexible, open, and engaging approach – you’ll be working with a range of clients with differing needs and complexities
  • A respectful, inclusive approach and experience working with diverse communities, including people from CALD backgrounds and indigenous populations
  • Good computer skills and ability to manage administrative tasks, including adding documentation to our CRM (HIVE) and medical system (HELIX)
  • You’ll also resonate with our values, and evidence them in your day to day working life :

  • We are humble, human, and full of hope
  • We show up and share
  • We ask “Why not” and “What’s next?”
  • We leave a positive wake
  • Benefits of Working with us

This a great opportunity to be at the forefront of an essential new service for people requiring drug and alcohol support. A chance to be part of a high-functioning, highly motivated and passionate team, who are dedicated to providing the best support they can.

We love continual improvement and support our people with plenty of learning and development. With a strong focus on evidence-based practice and clinical excellence, you’ll be challenged to extend your knowledge – and as we keep growing, you’ll find more and more opportunities to advance your career.

    We also offer :

  • Full time position (Monday-Friday) requiring no shift or weekend work
  • Salary Packaging to increase your take-home pay, including a Meals and Entertainment Card
  • Joining a nursing team that offers mentally stimulating work and provides a high level of autonomy and empowerment – whilst ensuring a culture of supervision and support
  • Regular clinical supervision, case conferencing and debriefings and a Nursing Community of Practice and buddy for ongoing support
  • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) including LEAP Services – access to a specialist pool of highly qualified, experienced clinicians of suitable seniority and expertise
  • Access to WellMob – social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing online resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • Free on-site parking for all staff, making your commute easier and more convenient
  • How to Apply

Applications close on Friday 28th November, however we will be conducting interviews throughout the process and may close applications early.

Lives Lived Well is an equal employment opportunity employer. We encourage applications from a diverse range of social, cultural and gender backgrounds that reflect our community including First Nations People.

We are a not-for-profit healthcare provider that offers evidence-based services across Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia. We specialise in supporting people with concerns related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental health, transitioning from corrective services, veterans' wellbeing, and gambling.

We bring experience, empathy, and a judgement‑free approach to every person’s journey, recognising that life is complex. We work alongside clients to unlock their capacity for positive change by providing person‑centred support using verified, contemporary clinical approaches.

Our passion lies in supporting people, and we’ve been doing just that for over forty years.
