Due to continued growth, Symons Clark Logistics is looking for a passionate Health, Safety & Environment Systems Manager to join our Health, Safety & Environment team in a full-time permanent role.
The HSE Systems Manager provides strategic and operational leadership in the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Symons Clark Logistics’ Health and Safety Management System. This role is pivotal in achieving and maintaining compliance with ISO 45001 : Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and the Return To Work SA Self-Insurance standards. The position drives effective assurance, risk management, and performance reporting processes across the business, ensuring that HSE systems support safe operations, legislative compliance, and continuous improvement.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with extensive HSE systems or assurance experience who’s ready to drive safety excellence at scale. You’ll work closely with leadership to develop and maintain accredited WHS management systems, lead audit and assurance programs across the business, and play a key role in building a strong safety culture in a high-risk transport and logistics environment.
What you will be doing…
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Health and Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001 and Self-Insurance standards
- Develop and implement risk management frameworks across all business units, ensuring hazards are identified, assessed, and controlled effectively
- Deliver training, coaching, and mentoring to leaders and employees on safety systems and risk management practices
- Manage the HSE document and records management system, ensuring all documentation is current, accessible, and properly maintained
- Coordinate internal audits, inspections, and assurance programs, overseeing corrective actions through to completion
- Ensure ongoing compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and Self-Insurance requirements
- Manage relationships with regulators, auditors, and certification bodies, responding to findings and maintaining certifications
- Support incident, hazard, and near-miss investigations, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
- Monitor changes to safety legislation and regulations, updating systems and communicating requirements across the business
- Develop and distribute HSE performance reports, including KPIs, trend analysis, and improvement recommendations
- Facilitate safety committee meetings and drive employee consultation and engagement on safety matters
- Partner with operational leaders to embed a proactive safety culture and ensure accountability at all levels
Do you have…
Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related disciplineLead Auditor qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001)Minimum 5 years’ experience in an HSE Systems or Assurance roleProven experience developing and implementing accredited or self-insured WHS management systems in high-risk or transport / logistics environmentsDemonstrated experience managing audits, assurance programs, and maintaining compliance with WHS legislation and standardsIn-depth knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA), Regulations, and Codes of PracticeStrong understanding of ISO 45001 principles and ReturnToWorkSA Self-Insurance performance standardsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levelsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Office and HSE management systems softwareAbility to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and facilitate training, workshops, and auditsAdditional Information…
