About the program

Aftercare is a non-clinical support service focused on providing practical psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide. Support is provided for up to three months and targets those at the highest risk through referrals following hospital presentations or through specialist mental health services.

About the opportunity

The Peer Carer Support Worker provides practical, non-clinical support to families and carers of individuals at risk of suicide, helping them navigate services, strengthen natural support networks, and build resilience. This includes in-home and community outreach, group-based peer support, and creating safe spaces for carers to express their experiences. The role is carer-led and focused on enhancing emotional wellbeing through education, connection, and access to appropriate resources.

To be successful in this role, you will need :

  • Lived experience of supporting a loved one experiencing suicidal ideation, crisis and / or suicide attempts
  • Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in a support role for people with mental health conditions
  • Current valid Driver’s License and the ability to undertake some travel and be away from home overnight
  • Experience working with priority populations (in rural setting is desirable) including men, children and young people is preferred
  • Right to work within Australia
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (free online course)
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children's Check (Employee / Paid)
