The Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of person centred, evidence-based nursing care that promotes positive health outcomes. The Registered nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

The Registered Nurse will work in therapeutic and professional relationships with individuals, as well as families, groups and communities. The Registered Nurse will assist in the provision of supervision and support for less experienced clinicians and will maintain their professional accountability and development in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia's Standards of Practice. Support from all units may be called upon for any given unit at times, where staff may be asked to work outside of their base unit if they are available.

For positions at Wollongong Hospital and Shellharbour Hospital there is a requirement to participate in an on-call roster once deemed competent. Staff not experienced in Haemodialysis will be required to work at the SDMH Renal Unit engaging in an education program, until competencies in haemodialysis treatment are reached (estimated timeframe is approximately 6 months).

Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
