Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Principal Platform Engineer to join a leading government organisation on a high-profile program of work. This is a senior hands-on role for a cloud specialist who can design, implement and support secure, scalable, and automated infrastructure solutions. You’ll be working within a collaborative systems support team that underpins a range of mission-critical transport and passenger information systems. This includes supporting live services as well as contributing to upcoming ICT projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and support of Azure cloud infrastructure, including VMs, storage, networking, and security.
  • Build and manage CI / CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code solutions with Terraform.
  • Automate tasks with PowerShell, Python, Kusto Query, and T-SQL.
  • Support and integrate with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform services.
  • Work with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Provide specialist technical support for real-time passenger systems and other critical applications.
  • Ensure compliance, monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning across all environments.
  • Contribute to documentation, governance, and continual service improvement.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call roster (allowances provided).

What we’re looking for

  • 6 years plus experience in Azure Cloud & Azure DevOps Engineer, ideally in transport sector
  • Strong technical skills in Azure Cloud, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and SQL Server.
  • Proven experience with automation, DevOps practices, monitoring tools (e.g. Grafana), and scripting.
  • Familiarity with Docker / Kubernetes for containerised environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and provide clear technical advice.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (highly regarded).
