About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?
As a Safety Advisor at Beveridge to Albury, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well‑being of our employees and contractors. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining effective safety management systems, conducting regular inspections and audits, and providing expert advice on safety procedures and regulations. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project teams to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and deliver safety training programs, and monitor compliance with safety standards. You will also investigate incidents and accidents, provide recommendations for improvement, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety culture.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safety legislation and best practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. You will have a proactive approach to safety, be detail‑oriented, and possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The role will be regionally out of the Wandong site.
Project Description
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries, and communities.
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 km of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor‑wide works. Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double‑stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.
Responsibilities
- Provide support, coordination and advice of Health Safety practices, systems and procedures within a defined workplace.
- Administer education and compliance programs for employees, contractors and visitors within a defined workplace.
- Initiate and coordinate accredited training programs for occupational health and safety committee members and first aid officers.
- Conduct Health And Safety audits and inspections.
- Identify hazards and event prevention programs.
- Provide direction and support to the Project Leadership Team to develop and implement adequate Health And Safety training within a defined workplace.
- Implement occupational health and safety procedures based on approved company policies in the areas of health, safety and fire prevention.
- Coordinate the investigation of causes on site and maintain documentation in accordance with Health and Safety procedures.
- Provide Health and Safety specialist advice and technical input to delivery, ensuring that legal and contractual obligations / risks are identified and communicated appropriately.
- Maintain records of all Health and Safety requirements at the workplace, in accordance with legislative company requirements and provide statistical summaries of these records.
- Conduct return to work coordinator activities.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.
Qualifications
Diploma Safety in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.Experience within the Construction Industry.Experience in HSE management techniques and tools.The ability to thrive in a dynamic and busy environment.Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages; use of basic functions of word processing, spreadsheet and email software.Ability to conduct and interpret audits and reviews.Benefits
