Triple Zero Victoria (TZV) provides the critical link between the Victorian community and the state’s emergency services agencies. It provides Victoria’s 24‑hour emergency call‑taking and dispatch services for Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES.

About The Role

The Network Engineer is a key and active participant of the Emergency Communications Information Services (ECIS) Department. This role will design, implement, maintain and support our growing network infrastructure.

Reporting to the Manager, Networking, specific accountabilities include configuring and installing various devices (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls), performing network maintenance and system upgrades, monitoring performance, ensuring system availability and reliability and monitoring system resource utilisation, trending and capability planning.

The main purpose of the role is to maintain networks that support core organisational functions and assure their high availability across a complex distributed network. The ability to prioritise mission‑critical tasks and coordinate the maintenance of TZV’s networks so upgrades and other tasks do not affect daily operations.

As part of the ECIS team you may be required to travel or transfer between your primary work location and other TZV sites to effectively carry out your duties. Normal working hours are 38 hours per week between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Friday. You are required to participate in an on‑call roster and may be required to work reasonable overtime.

Day To Day Responsibilities Include

  • Management and monitoring of all installed network infrastructure
  • Effective maintenance of a highly available environment and register / remediate any security risks
  • Management of patching and updates for firewalls and network equipment, ideally through automation and rules
  • Participation in the delivery of change into the TZV IT infrastructure and network environments
  • Creation of network documentation to support change and knowledge transfer
  • Sharing of knowledge to enhance the technical skills of others
  • About You

    The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes –

  • ITIL V3 Certification
  • Substantial experience in a large organisation (500 or more employees), supporting 24 / 7 network infrastructure
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills with capacity to assess and resolve technical issues and initiate improvements
  • Extensive / Demonstrable experience working with :

  • CISCO CCNP Routing / Switching
  • CISCO Nexus Data Centre Architecture
  • CISCO ASA 5000 service
  • CISCO Nexus 7K, 5K
  • Virtual private networks, ACLS, IPSEC
  • Extensive experience in routing protocol operation, configuration and troubleshooting (mainly BGP, OSPF and EIGRP)
  • Strong knowledge of CISCO Enterprise Core and Access Switching (Nexus 7K, 6500, 4500, series)
  • Sound knowledge of security technical protocols, policies and process. Able to install and maintain security infrastructure of CISCO ASA5500’s firewalls, IOS Firewalls
