The Opportunity :

Liebherr Australia is seeking an Automation Engineer – Perception and Robotics to develop work with perception technology and planning algorithms related to autonomous haul trucks.

Reporting to the Manager – Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Development, you will be responsible for the successful integration to the supporting hardware and software and contributes to the verification of the developed technology.

You’ll be great in this role because :

You are knowledgeable across mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering and manufacturing technology. You have an innate ability to design an automated process because of your understanding of the relationship between each step in the system. You have a track record of paying attention to the details, so any errors are discovered before they become a problem. But at upmost, you are naturally optimistic even when faced with challenges.

Responsibilities / Education / Experience

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop the perception and planning systems algorithms as they relate to autonomous haul trucks
  • Write specifications for hardware and software development including algorithm definition
  • Demonstrate solutions to onboard systems requirements through development of documentation for development, calibration, operations and troubleshoot onboard system performance
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
  • Assist the AHS project team with other duties as required.

Education and Experience :

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics or Mechatronics) and eligibility for IEAust membership.
  • Experience in intensive systems design projects (min. 2 years)
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Development experience with heavy, off road or mining vehicles and / or AHS (desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management (desirable).
  • Post Graduate level qualification in Engineering or related discipline (desirable).
