Following recent growth in Queensland, the organisation is expanding its water engineering capability to support their clients operational teams across the central and northern regions.
The Role
This role provides high-level operational process engineering support across multiple water treatment plants in South East Queensland. It is a long-term embedded position focused on stabilising plant performance, solving operational issues, and driving continuous improvement across several regional sites.
The Senior Process Engineer will work closely with plant operators, operations leaders, and asset planning teams to diagnose process deviations, manage upsets, improve reliability, and ensure regulatory compliance.
This is a hands‑on, site‑facing role requiring regular travel between multiple plants.
The initial assignment is 20 months, typically delivered through rolling 12‑month contracts, with strong likelihood of extension and future redeployment.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Provide operational process engineering support across multiple water treatment plants in SEQ.
- Identify and implement process optimisation opportunities to improve reliability, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and defect elimination for process deviations or performance upsets.
- Support the design, commissioning, and validation of asset improvement and optimisation projects.
- Conduct capability and capacity assessments, confirming operational readiness and compliance with design intent.
- Lead and participate in hazard and risk assessments related to water treatment operations.
- Work closely with operators to improve plant performance, deliver process training, and strengthen decision‑making capability.
- Prepare monthly reporting on risks, performance trends, challenges, and improvement recommendations.
- Collaborate with asset planning and delivery teams across the project lifecycle to ensure integration between design, operations, and capital works.
- Participate in emergency response activities and provide specialist support during plant incidents.
- Manage operational priorities across multiple sites with autonomy.
- Represent the advisory team while embedded within the clients operations.
What We Are Looking For
Degree‑qualified Engineer (Process, Chemical, Environmental, or related discipline).Min. 5+ years experience in water treatment, process plant operationsStrong knowledge of water treatment processes, compliance requirements, and operational troubleshooting.RPEQ highly desired; candidates without RPEQ must be willing to obtain it.Experience working hands‑on in operational environments not purely design or desk‑based roles.Demonstrated ability to manage process investigations, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable improvements.Strong understanding of hazard analysis, risk mgmt and safety‑critical operations.Ability to travel to multiple sites weekly (approx. three days per week in the field).Candidates must be eligible to work in Qld; relocation support available if required.What's on Offer
