Job Description

SGS is seeking Coal Technicians to join our team at Mount Thorley, NSW, on a casual basis. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the timely and high-quality sampling, preparation, and analysis of samples for both internal and external customers.

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Ensure accuracy, precision, and traceability of prepared samples.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance of all preparation and laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with calibration of all preparation and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain a safety-aware environment at all times.
  • Follow routine and non-routine sampling instructions under supervision.
  • Perform duties such as Sampling, Collection, Preparation, Analysis, Reporting, and Validation of samples from automatic sample stations and other sources, as required, in accordance with your Industrial Agreement classification.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as directed by your supervisor or management.

Qualifications

  • Coal sampling, preparation, and testing experience preferred.
  • Experience in a general mineral laboratory environment preferred.
  • Successful completion of Year 10 secondary education with a science background or equivalent (preferred).
  • Progress towards or completion of relevant higher formal qualifications preferred.
  • Good computer skills, including Excel, beneficial.
  • Ability to pass a numeracy, writing, and comprehension test.
  • Current full driver’s license (green P plates by approval).
