Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate and academic clients' value the validation of Applied Science's software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.

The Role We have an opportunity for Engineers to join our Applied Science team in Perth, Australia where we use our expert knowledge to develop technical and bespoke solutions for our clients. Our clients include Oil & Gas and petrochemical operators, Engineering, Construction, Procurement and Maintenance (EPCM) contractors as well as specialised consultants and industry bodies. Our office is a client-facing business and our projects will offer many opportunities for you to engage with clients from the earliest days of your career. This will allow you to grow your business skills alongside your technical knowledge.

Responsibilities The role is dependent upon both the experience and skillset of the applicant and the projects underway in the office but will require supporting projects in the field of Process Safety Management. Recent example activities include :

• Fire Load Response Analysis;
• Hydrocarbon fire modelling for processing facilities;
• Hydrocarbon gas dispersion analysis for process facilities;
• Safety Management Systems and auditing;
• Safety Case support;
• Process Safety Management;
• Risk assessment, qualitative and quantitative;
• Advanced fluid flow modelling for process facilities;

Seismic assessment and design; and

Blast analysis and design for critical infrastructure.

Requirements Candidates must hold as a minimum a Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics and must be able to demonstrate excellent understanding of fundamental principles and strong problem solving ability. Programming skills and knowledge of statistical techniques would be an advantage.

Key qualities are a willingness to learn new skills, to listen to the problem and to be open-minded about the solution. A passion to tackle new and interesting problems is essential.
