Salary : From $128,906.49 depending on experience plus 15% superannuation

About The Queensland Migrant WorkWise Project

The Queensland Council of Unions (the QCU) through Queensland Migrant WorkWise has entered into a 12 month funded agreement with the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs, to deliver an information and education program for temporary visa holders and their employers about their rights and obligations under the Migration Act and other work-related matters in metropolitan, regional and remote locations throughout Queensland.

Queensland Migrant WorkWise is an initiative of the QCU, the state’s peak union body representing 26 affiliate unions and 400,000 Queensland union members.

Role Purpose

The Queensland Migrant WorkWise Project Communications Officer will play a critical role in promoting and supporting the program by developing and delivering clear, engaging, and professionally designed communications across multiple platforms underpinned by a strategic communications plan.

The Role Will Be Required To

• work closely with our partners – the Migrant Worker Centre and the Immigration Advice Rights Centre – to collaborate over the initial development of resources for the program for licenced usage;
• develop a Queensland project website and social media channels as an effective resource for temporary visa holders, their employers, and the community;
• work closely with the Project Director and eight (8) Outreach Officers employed by the program and have direct responsibility for the development of accessible tools, fact sheets, and other information to support the program and to assist with engagement with temporary visa holders, their employers, and other stakeholders such as community organisations and legal centres, local government, and local employer bodies with significant cohorts of migrant workers within their spheres of coverage; and
• develop clear, factual and engaging information around workplace rights and conditions under the Fair Work Act and work health and safety laws in Queensland, focused on increasing awareness of legal obligations and worker entitlements, and highlighting business and workforce benefits of inclusion and diversity.
