Biosecurity Operations Division delivers nationally-integrated biosecurity and export regulatory activities, with a focus on effectively managing biosecurity and export certification risks. The division is a key contributor to the development of biosecurity and export certification policies. The division spans a range of regulatory activities that plays a critical role in reducing risk and shaping our nation to become one of the few countries in the world to remain free from the world's most severe pests and diseases.
The Pathway Policy - Cargo and Conveyances Branch is responsible for determining, developing and enabling the strategies, regulatory frameworks, tactics and interventions that manage biosecurity and other risk within the transport and trade pathways into Australia. The branch sets operational policy for the biosecurity clearance of air and sea cargo, conveyances and ports, seasonal pests and assessment policy.
The Air Cargo and Emerging Ports Section :
leads and supports the management of biosecurity risks posed by imported air cargo and unaccompanied personal effects (UPE), through setting national policy and regulatory control frameworks for specific goods (non-plant and-animal) and the containers they arrive in, including the branch lead for non-commercial cargo (lodged via Self-Assessed Clearance process) arriving by the air or sea cargo pathways; andis responsible for the ongoing management, including maintenance and implementation, of the department's infrastructure requirements for biosecurity clearance at new and existing international ports. The section works collaboratively across the department's biosecurity system, with industry and port operators, Commonwealth agencies and international governments to lead and support the design and delivery of an integrated regulatory compliance system and ensure new and redeveloping ports have the required infrastructure and staffing to provide border clearance services at a nationally consistent standard.The JobThe duties of the role may include :
