The People, Strategy and Safety Branch is the centre of capability identification, acquisition, mobilisation and development in the department and supports the department to achieve its complex agenda through a highly capable, diverse and inclusive workforce. We provide valuable support and guidance to business areas through our closely connected sections : Health, Safety and Welfare Strategy and Systems; Health, Safety and Welfare Operations; Organisation Design and Analytics; Culture, Diversity and Inclusion; Talent, Leadership and Capability; Workforce Strategy, Planning and Design.
The Workforce Strategy, Planning & Design Section supports the department's strategic objectives through the design and delivery of HR strategies and initiatives. The team is responsible for ensuring the department is capable, engaged and future ready through HR reform, analytics and reporting, best-practice workforce planning, embedding new behaviours and ways of working and taking action on the census results.
The JobsCore duties of the role include :
contributing to the team's collaborative and supportive culture by providing leadership, support and advice to other team membersextracting, manipulating and analysing data using a number of systems and turning this analysis into insightsdeveloping and implementing HR reform projects in consultation with staff and the executivedriving new ways of working and Future of Work initiatives, in line with the departmental context and APS Reformpartnering with the business to revise and implement group level tactical workforce plansproviding evidence-based expert advice and policy direction to managers and staff on HR policies and strategiesengaging and collaborating with colleagues to achieve departmental people priorities and team goals and building strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholdersdriving the design of, and conducting, workforce surveys at various stages of the employment life cycle and contributing to the analysis of trends or actions arisingcontributing to the administration and analysis of the department's employee census, providing recommendations to the executive on key areas to address and driving improvement across the department.providing high-level leadership to, and optimising the performance of, team members, including leading a team that may include locally based and / or geographically dispersed memberspreparing senate estimates briefs and responding to questions on noticeundertaking other ad-hoc strategic HR projects, as required, and providing ongoing support and expertise to our Director and Assistant Secretary.Please notethat this recruitment process will initially be used to fillone non-ongoing vacancy and potentially one ongoing vacancy in the Workforce Strategy, Planning & Design SectionBoth roles may be performed from any of the locations listed on the job description. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the division where the duties are of a similar nature.What we are looking forKnowledge and experienceTo be successful in this role you will be experienced in providing high level strategic direction, advice and support on a broad range of people management issues relevant to a large, geographically dispersed organisation with a functionally diverse workforce. You will have demonstrated professional ethical standards and personal integrity in dealing with sensitive personnel matters and a record of achievement in delivering results. You will have breadth and depth of experience in HR, including the latest thinking in the field as well as understanding the broader APS agenda.
You will also have :
experience in, and a passion for, HR strategy and reformdemonstrated workforce planning experience, including the design of workforce plans and the implementation of recommendations.demonstrated experience as a trusted and collaborative HR advisor that provides high-level strategic advice and can bring others along on the journey.
