While the terms 'Koorie' or 'Koori' are commonly used by First Peoples of southeast Australia, we have used the term First Peoples to include all people of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent who are living in Victoria.About The RoleAs the First Peoples Strategy Specialist, you are integral to the success of V / Line's Corporate Affairs Group.The First Peoples Strategy Specialist is responsible for leading initiatives that embed First Peoples' perspectives into the organisation's culture, workforce, and decision-making processes.
This role champions inclusion, cultural safety, and self-determination by working collaboratively with communities and internal stakeholders to shape policies, programs, and practices that reflect the values and priorities of First Peoples.Key Responsibilities : Develop and implement strategies that promote the inclusion of First Peoples across the organisation's workforce and leadership.
Build and maintain strong relationships with First Peoples communities to inform inclusive practices and ensure cultural protocols are respected.
Design educational programs and awareness campaigns to foster understanding of First Peoples cultures and the importance of self-determination.
Facilitate community engagement activities to gather feedback and ensure First Peoples voices are represented in organisational decisions.
Collaborate with departments to integrate First Peoples perspectives into diversity policies and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusion strategies, using feedback to continuously improve outcomes.
Site visits & the requirement to travelThis role requires travel to our stations throughout regional Victoria.
It's a great way to get out to see our beautiful State!The role is primarily based at our 452 Flinders Street office, however, will require travel to the regions as required to engage with stakeholders and deliver training.About YouYou are a culturally aware and community-focused professional with proven experience working alongside First Peoples communities.
You bring strong facilitation, communication, and analytical skills, along with a deep understanding of First Peoples' rights, histories, and contemporary issues.Our ideal candidate will possess the following : Proven experience working with First Peoples communities, with deep knowledge of cultural protocols, social issues, and self-determination.
Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead inclusive training and workshops.
Analytical capability to interpret data and provide insights that inform strategy and continuous improvement.
Ability to build partnerships, navigate diverse working styles, and foster inclusive team environments.
Demonstrated alignment with V / Line's values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
