  • Contribute to meaningful, long-term changes in children’s health outcomes and family well-being. Diverse experiences across clinical service delivery, research, and education. Work closely with a medical speciality and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

VCID No. 675618

This is a permanent part time ( FTE) position, with days of work on Wednesdays and Thursdays according to clinic hours. The other half a day is flexible.

About the Role :

We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology (DCPN) at Perth Children’s Hospital and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care within a multidisciplinary team – the Healthy Weight Service .

This is a unique opportunity to work within an established, innovative service that transforms health trajectories for children with severe, complicated obesity and related conditions.

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will work closely with children and their families to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioural factors contributing to obesity. You will empower families to overcome barriers to positive lifestyle changes, foster resilience and support the creation of a supportive home environment to enable sustainable, lifelong health improvements.

While your clinical role will be predominantly focused on support of patients within the Healthy Weight Service, you will have a professional home as an integral member of the Psychology Department.

Key Responsibilities :

Conducting individual, family, and group therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based interventions. Educating children and families about the psychological aspects of behaviour change, including motivation, goal setting, and habit formation. Participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinics (including dietitians, physiotherapists, and medical professionals) to create integrated care plans, including potential medical interventions, and provide psychosocial triage for adolescents and families. Addressing psychological issues related to obesity, ensuring they do not hinder engagement in treatment and lifestyle interventions. Liaising with external agencies, including school and community-based groups and refer clients to specialised support as needed. Providing education and consultation to colleagues and families on psychological aspects of health behaviour change.

If you are passionate about working with family systems with prior experience with complex cases that include medical and psychological factors, then we encourage you to apply.

Please note a Master or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and eligibility for full registration and endorsement in Clinical Psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia is a requirement for this role.
