Job descriptionOaktree College West Footscray is an independent specialist senior secondary school dedicated to providing a sustainable and supportive learning community for students from migrant backgrounds who are at risk of disengaging from education. Responsibilities Classroom Support Work alongside teachers to assist students with their learning, provide one-on-one or small group support, and help manage classroom activities. Kitchen Assistance Help prepare and serve meals in the school kitchen, maintain cleanliness, and ensure the kitchen / dining area is tidy after meals. Facilities Upkeep Assist in setting up classrooms and common areas each day and perform light cleaning duties to maintain a safe, organized learning environment. General Support Provide additional support as needed around the school - this may include preparing learning materials, assisting with school events, or other tasks to help staff and students. Key Requirements Working With Children Check (WWCC) & Police Check A valid WWCC and police clearance are required prior to commencing (or willingness to obtain them promptly). First Aid Certification Current first aid certification (or willingness to obtain one - the college can assist with arranging first aid training if needed). Computer Skills Basic computer proficiency Professional & Positive Attitude A professional demeanour with a willingness to learn, a positive outlook, and a respectful approach to students and staff. Youth Engagement Ability Patience and the ability to work effectively with students who are at risk of disengagement, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds. Benefits Flexible Schedule This is a volunteer position with flexible availability Monday to Friday, approximately 9 : 00am-5 : 00pm. We are willing to work with your schedule within these hours (you can commit to specific days or half-days that suit your availability). Meals Provided Enjoy complimentary meals on site during your volunteer days, prepared in our school kitchen. Training & Development Receive free training, including the opportunity to obtain First Aid certification if you don't already have it. We provide orientation and ongoing support to help you succeed in the role. Valuable Experience Gain hands-on experience in an educational setting, working closely with teachers and support staff. This is a great opportunity to develop skills in education support, youth work, and community service. Supportive Team Environment Be part of a welcoming team that values collaboration and mentorship. You will have a supervisor / mentor to guide you, and you'll contribute to a positive school culture focused on helping students thrive. Recognition & Future Opportunities Volunteers will receive a reference letter or certificate of appreciation upon completion of a satisfactory service period.
