- The Opportunity
In the role of
- Farm Hand
- you will be responsible for undertaking animal husbandry and related tasks to assist with the care and well-being of our livestock inclusive of general maintenance at our Westbrook Pig Research Facility.
Reporting to the Farm Manager, key responsibilities will include :
- Assisting and performing general fitting, welding, fabricating, machining and equipment maintenance / installation
- Undertaking a pro-active role in fault finding and preventative maintenance
- Maintaining a high-quality environment for the welfare and well-being of stock
- Assisting tradesmen and contractors when necessary
- Carrying out specified methods, controlled procedures and operational infrastructure
- Clean accommodation pens, fittings and equipment;
- Tend to routine husbandry of all stock;
- Move, draft and weigh stock;
- Care for sick and / or injured animals; and
- Administer medications when required

As a key member of this team, the successful applicant must :
- Have a basic knowledge of tool skills
- Be committed to upholding the highest levels of animal welfare and biosecurity standards
- Sound communication and effective time management skills;
- A current driver's licence
- A preparedness to work flexible hours (including some weekends and public holidays)
- Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role, which includes working with animals and manual handling tasks including lifting
- Have a positive attitude towards the intrinsic values of trust, integrity, agility, quality, innovation and unity
All Piggery Attendants are trained in animal welfare and husbandry and are required to undertake a Certificate III in Pork Production.
